so happy with these

So, I got some reallll cute things on my trip! I don't have time to upload all the 8 million pictures from DC/NYC, so I will do that later. We had sooo much fun :) Keeley isn't quite as into shopping as I, but she let me take her into Urban Outiftters and Anthropologie! So great! Anyways, I got these things that I just love and wanted to show you! in case you care.

--I had been wanting a romper for a while and I finally found one I thought was atleast decently flattering. haha I got complimented on it at a gay bar, so that's a good sign... right?--
--(urbanoutfitters)--

--I just love this Can't wait to wear it--
--(urbanoutfitters)--

--they showed this with a dress and cardigan so it'll work in the fall too, only $28 bucks!--
--(anthropologie)--

--yay!!!! i needed an apron so bad.--
--(anthropologie)--

--Okay, so I didn't actually get these because I was worried about breaking them on the way back, but I have to order them. Aren't they cute??? They're measuring cups! I'm obsessed.--
--(anthropologie)--

Anyways, thank you for indulging me! I'm actually in Iowa now with family! And, it's pool time so I gotta go. My cousins are almost 3, 5 and precious. I'll update more soon!

packing a raincoat is no good.

First, I guess I should just update you on the past weekend... although of course I enjoyed seeing my boyfriend, it wasn't too eventful. I cooked him (and my parents) a lovely dinner on Friday night. Chicken and Summer Vegetable Tostadas. It's chicken, zucchini, corn, cilantro, salsa, cheese... excellent. Also, I made fresh pineapple salsa and a peanut butter dessert I had seen on bakerella. Both were excellent, but the dessert may have been a little too rich. shocking, I know. Anyway, Saturday we were just lazy, lazy bums. We slept late, went to get some lunch and ran to a couple of stores (it's a boy, so ya know that took a whole one hour) then we just came back to watch golf. Then, since we slept late, we took a nap. Makes sense, huh? haha needless to say neither of us could sleep Saturday night. We ate dinner at this Thai place downtown I really like and watched Last Chance Harvey, which I loved!! David liked it he said, but I defintely enjoyed it more. It's surprisingly funny. Is it the most thrilling romance, no, but it's excellent nonetheless. I recommend it. (in case you were wondering). After no sleep, we went to church on Sunday then David left and I had to go to the miniature town of Rector. ew. I'm pretty sure my family makes up half the population of the town... which is not big to begin with. And... that was pretty much my day. Except of course for watching the Next Food Network Star which I am OBSESSED with.
So, now... on to this week!!! YAYYAYYAYYAYYAY I'm going to visit Keeley in DC!!! I can't wait!!! I'm about to pack and tomorrow I have to work (babysit) but then I'll be on my way to LR and I'm flying out Wednesday! Did I mention that I'm excited? I'll be there till Monday and we're even taking a bus over to NYC for a couple days! WATCH OUT!!!
I've only been to DC once... to visit David a couple of summers ago. And, I've only been to NYC once... same summer, with some of my best girlfriends. And I actually just had dinner with them tonight. I lovelovelove them all and tonight was probably our last night of this summer to spend all together. We had a fantastic time on our trip to NYC and I really hope this trip can live up! Which will be tough, but I know we'll put up a good fight :)

--in DC with David at the National Cathedral--

--so blurry.. sorry. Morgan, me, Ellen and Lauren in NYC--

It'll probably be a little while before I update, but I promise to give you way more pictures than you care to see :) And, now, I'll give you a little preview of what may be to come!

I am not a normal college student

Every year my parents have a 4th of July party in our backyard because we live on the golf course where they have fantastic fireworks! yay! Anyways, it's a "supperclub" party with some other friends and neighbors. Lots of older people and some kids and... me and David and 2 of my friends. haha Oh well! One of my mom's best friends, MaryBeth and her husband, shared the hosting duties with my parents. About a week before, MB came over so she and my mom could plan decorations and everything. To their surprise, I had seen fabulous ideas all over the place so I had all sorts of input. Whether they wanted it or not :) Lucky for me, MB loves to bake too and she completely understood my obsession! Thank goodness! So... here are some pictures of the amazing-ness I helped create :)

--me making "sparklers" like Martha!--

--they look cool, huh??--

-- hahahaha this is probably my favorite picture. I gave David the oh-so-important job of separating the red, white and blue m&ms from each other. he was thrilled. --

--making Bakerella's famous cupcake pops!!! I was so excited!!! and I love wearing an apron. --

--finished product! aren't they cute? and, seriously, ya know how some super cute bakedgoods don't really taste that great? these are D-licious! everyone was so impressed! --

--went just a little overboard... but doesn't it look good! minus the wilted sparklers, that is. they didn't love the heat and humidity. --

--hey there boyfriend! I really don't even think he was impressed, I think he just thought I was so weird. He kept rolling his eyes and saying oh my gosh. deep down, i'm sure he loved it. atleast, I'm going to tell myself he did. ha --

sorry for so many pictures... thank you for indulging me! I was just so in love with it all! and so proud cause I took on so much!! it was a great party!

Kay Kaaaayy

This past weekend one of my favorite friends, K.K., came to visit. It was pretty much just a spur of the moment trip and those are always the best! K.K. and I became really close friends a little over a year ago. She was bffs with some of my best friends Mo, Hillary and Jackie, so they introduced us, but it wasn't until we all moved in together that we got super close. And by "we all moved in together" I mean all of those girls listed plus myself. We can call Hillary an honorary roommate even though she didn't actually LIVE with us, but she got ready with us there before every fun night! Anyways, back to K.K. We spent several nights in the house together minus our other 2 roommates (shackers) so we hung out a lot! She is a HOOOT!!!! She is from a pretty small, super southern town so she has a really great accent. ha After he met her, one of my friends' dads said it was like a southern valley girl... and all he could think of was "legally brunette!" She also happens to be one of the smartest girls I know (2 scholarship offers for law school! sheesh!) so Legally Brunette is pretty perfect. Oh and she pretty much has the exact same interests as I do. We're obsessed with fashion and music and pretty much she's the only friend of mine who doesn't think my music is weird haha yes, Hill, talking to you! Moral of this story is I looooveeee K.K. and I was so glad she randomly decided to come visit! Here are a couple of good pics of us from the past year.

--somewhere on Dickson, I'm sure, but where?--

--always. this is us.--

--a little better. we have a good time. --

--in case for some crazy reason you couldn't tell, these are our senior pictures. Dickson, duh.--

Luckily for K.K. she came for an unusually exciting weekend in the big J-town. My parents live on the Jonesboro Country Club, so pretty much their favorite thing to do is sit in the backyard on pretty nights. Of course Den plays golf and tennis, but other than that it's just good for the view. This weekend was an especially exciting weekend to be here because there was a big golf tournament going on and tons of people around. Friday night we went to the club to eat dinner with my parents and have drinks. One of my best friends from high school, Ellen, came with us too and we really had a blast! Had some wine, great meal and then more wine/cosmos. K.K. and Ellen had never met, but they're both so easy-going and fun that it worked out great! Such a good night. The next morning K.K. and I were a little slow to get going, but we met Ellen at the pool for a few hours even though it was cloudy. After that we made some strawberry dacquiris and had some rotel. Healthy, right? K.K. and I rode around with my parents to watch some good golf then cooked dinner before getting all dolled up to go out to the Brickhouse. Brickhouse is a notsogreatrestaurant/prettyfunbar downtown and it's one of the only places to go "out" here. Downtown Jonesboro is actually kind of a fun place these days... we now have a few new cool restaurants/bars and there are more coming (like 6 before the end of the year! fancy!). But this was not the Jboro I grew up in. All this good stuff came after we left for college. Of course we wouldn't have cared before we were legal really, anyway, I guess. Anyways, we had a pretty good time. K.K. is from DeQueen which is miniature so I hope she had a good time in the big city! HA! I'll leave you with a couple of pictures from our weekend!

A funny

So, I'm real bad at this blog thing. Still can't figure out how to make clicking on Hillary's name take you to her blog. If you're wondering, (and, i'm assuming someone somewhere out there may possibly eventually follow my blog besides the actually Hillary) Hillary's blog is http://southernspiceandeverythingnice.blogspot.com/. Well lets see if that even works. ha.

But this is the funny part. And, you may not think it's funny, and that's fine... but I do. Well, now I do. So, I babysit three days a week. Yesterday a storm with hail was coming, so DenDen called to see if maybe I could move my car into their garage for the morning. Easier said than done. First, I had to maneuver some stuff to the side so I could then move the golf cart over so I could THEN move my car into the garage. Easy enough. Except they have two dogs that were apparently very excited by me trying to move my car. They were all in the way. And, obviously, I wasn't interested in running them over. Brewser, their maltipoo, jumped in the car with me and that was fine. He always does. Then Princess, their weimeraner(sp?), decided to get in. Although this was clearly not my plan, it actually helped cause I wasn't freaking out about running them over or something. Worked out great until it was time to get out of the car. Brewser hopped right out, but apparently Princess was enjoying the "leather sofa" that is the backseat of my car. Wouldn't get out. Wouldn't get out for over two hours. I tried to get her out. She just wouldn't have it. So, that was kind of my morning until the kids finally got her out. At the time, I was annoyed, but pretty stinkin funny slash cute now.

--Here is Princess on her leather sofa aka my backseat--

--Princess with crazy ears and one of the tennis balls she never parts with--

Look at that precious dog and I dare you to not have a better day. Okay, too cheese. I'll back off. But, I dare you not to smile. If you don't, you might have a colder heart than I. And THAT my friend, is impressive. :) I promise to attempt to write something of substance tomorrow.

Here goes nothing..

First, let me just say... I'm not messing anything up at UAMS Ha! I actually can't even take credit for this goofy blogname. One of my best friends, Hillary can't either. But, her boyfriend Steven can!

For months, Hill and I discussed how great blogs were and how we should start one. Please keep in mind this was in April/May/June... so, somewhere at the very end of June I stumbled across a blog I thought might look interesting. Whaddya know I was in the picture at the top of the blog. Excuse me? Well, it appears Miss Hillary was having these discussions with me about WANTING to start a blog... and she actually did it. Without telling me. Okay. Cool. Moving on.

Once I found it and obviously grilled her about her behavior, she decided I needed one as well. But what on Earth do I have to say? That is yet to be seen. The largest worry to me was whatintheheck to name this thing! So, clearly Hillary had ideas about this. And, apparently so did Steven. I had no idea this was fascinating dinner table discussion for that lovely little couple, but I found that it was. Sorry Hill, but Steven had way better ideas! ha! And they were WAY better than mine. First idea out on the table, (courtesy of Steven) " Callie's Layer" hahahhahahaha I know, right? Well, if you know my name that's funny. However, two problems: 1. Don't know how I feel about having my name as the name of the blog. Don't really want any creeps after me. 2. I was afraid it would just read "callieslayer" and upon seeing that and not knowing me, I, personally, would think Callie S. Layer. Not my middle initial. ... Hillary had a few other decent options including "Daily Prescriptions from Callie," but that just felt like I should give advice and goodnessknows noone needs my advice.

So, this is where I ended up. Although this is certainly going to be a super nerdy, stressful, busy, scholastic four years for me... I hope I am able to talk about things more interesting than just UAMS! So, don't worry... I won't blog about how a medication works. And hopefully I won't talk about other completely boring things either. What will I talk about? Good question.

--My dear Hillary and I ringing in 2009! (could you tell?)--

Hillary, I hope this post finds you surviving school! I can't wait to talk to you again after this mess! And, of course, thank you for answering all my stupid blog questions.

This girl is my smartypants "teacher friend." I love it.
